On the Epic Games Store, PC gamers can get Bioshock: The Collection, which includes Bioshock (2007), Bioshock 2 (2010), and Bioshock Infinite (2013) till June 2nd. Like other Epic freebies, once you claim the games with your Epic account, they’ll be yours to keep for good. While this giveaway isn’t as timely or generous as some of the Epic weekly free games — most recently released game is over a decade old — it’s well worth taking if you’ve somehow overlooked one of the best-known shooters from the last two decades.

The protagonist of Bioshock plunges into the undersea art deco city of Rapture, a would-be utopia founded on extreme objectivist thought from the game’s mid-20th century backdrop. Rapture isn’t what it used to be: shambling, barely-human “splicers” stalk the corridors, water seeps into decaying bulkheads, and enormous monsters in vintage diving suits protect disturbing little girls. It’s up to you to use your wits, gunslinging, and supernatural powers of ADAM to solve the clues of Rapture and escape this fallen utopia.

Epic Games Free Week: Bioshock 2 (2010)

Bioshock 2 is the black sheep of the Bioshock family, failing to stand out from its progenitor due to its return to the Rapture setting and lack of innovation. While Bioshock 2 improves in several areas, retaining the tight production values of the original, its narrative — centered on the notorious Big Daddy and Little Sister enemies from the debut game — isn’t nearly as engaging. Reusing some of same interactive story mechanics evokes feelings of deja vu as a gaming experience.

Epic Games Free Week: Bioshock Infinite (2013)

The themes of the original Bioshock are continued in BioShock Infinite, which takes place in the sky. Technically a prequel to the original game, you find your way into the beautiful flying city of Columbia, where enigmatic leader Comstock has utilized steampunk technology to secede from the United States and establish his own society based on the worship of himself and the Founding Fathers. Elizabeth, a young woman with a strange history who can tear holes in space and time’s fabric, is there. (And by extension, one of video gaming’s finest non-player characters.) Discover how Elizabeth — and you — fit into the fabric of Columbia’s creation and literal downfall as you fight your way through an incipient revolution on floating islands, solve puzzles, and unravel conspiracies.

The Epic Games Store is holding a free download for BioShock: The Collection from now until June 2nd at 11 a.m. US Eastern time. It includes all of the single-player DLC from the games, as well as some that was highly praised. Also, don’t forget about Epic’s “Mega” game sale, which is still ongoing.
