Hashimoto is retiring. Last year, he said he was going to step down as the Final Fantasy brand manager and name Yoshinori Kitase his replacement. For the past year, Hashimoto has been a corporate advisor, teaching his replacement while he waited to retire officially. Now at age 64, Hashimoto is retiring for real this time

Shinji Hashimoto, the producer at Square Enix, said he will retire.

Shinji Hashimoto, a legend at Square Enix, has announced his retirement. This ends a 27-year career with the company where he was a producer or executive producer for almost every mainline Final Fantasy game, as well as other titles like the three main Kingdom Hearts games and the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake. In a heartfelt Twitter post, Hashimoto announced his retirement, stating that he would “now support Square Enix as a fan.”

“Good day, everyone. As of today 31 May, I am leaving my job due to entering retirement age,” wrote Hashimoto. “I had worked with many people from various fields during my tenure. From here on, I’d like to support Square Enix as a fan. Thank you very much.”
