On Tuesday morning, Cloudflare had an outage, according to its status page. According to Downdetector, many different sites, including Discord, Shopify, Grindr, Fitbit, and Peleton were affected by the outage. At around 2:30AM ET on Tuesday, reports of problems began. At 4:06AM ET the problem was addressed by Cloudflare.

The problems were most severe for Cloudflare users of its own DNS Lookup Service. Multiple Verge staff members discovered that they were unable to access any websites during the outage as a result of using Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 DNS service. Fortunately, the solution is straightforward: Change your DNS settings. I determined that simply reverting to my ISP’s default DNS settings fixed 95% of my connection difficulties.

FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, announced that its platform and other sites would be difficult to access for many individuals, claiming that the exchange was now in “post-only” mode. Bitfinex and OKEx also mentioned it on Twitter, with the latter asking whether is there a Web3 alternative available for the future.

In July and August 2020, Cloudflare had problems similar to this. It isn’t a good look for a firm that promotes its services as a means to minimize downtime.
