The Apex Legends Split 2 playoffs championship was won by the Asia Pacific South/Australian team Reignite on Saturday, after seven matches, to reclaim the Apex Legends LAN crown in almost two years. This victory is extra sweet since Reignite was forced to play with a substitute for Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose, who tested positive for COVID-19 before the start of the tournament and was thus unable to compete. Former Kungarna player Jake “Jmw” Walters took Genburten’s place and made it all

“It feels like we’re naturally just playing together,” said Jmw in the post-match interview with Evan “Raynday” Byron Rayn. “It feels fantastic. Zer0 here is IGLing us and me and Sharky are just listening to him and we’re literally just playing a comp and step by step we’re just closing out games.”

Reignite win the ALGS Split 2 playoffs

With the ALGS Split 2 playoffs grand finals match point format, Reignite entered the finale with 56 points and was well within striking distance of completing the job owing to the final game’s match point structure. All they had to do now was capture this last victory. It all came down to a final round between Reignite and two North American teams, OpTic Gaming and Luminosity Gaming. Because neither of the NA teams had won a game yet, they needed to put Reignite down if they wanted another chance at winning the postseason crown for themselves.

Luminosity held the high ground and was using it to keep its rivals at bay. Luis Enrique “Neazul” Ramos Suarez Dug his Caustic ultimate down on Reignite, injuring them with gas before blasting them with bullets alongside his teammates. Things were not looking good for Reignite as the circle began to shrink around them.

While Rick “Sharky” Wirth was down, his teammates were able to use a rock and a Respawn Beacon as cover and bring him back into the fight. In-game leader Rhys “Zer0” Perry utilized his Valkyrie ultimate to shield his team while also damaging LG from below, giving Reignite just enough space to survive

Rick “Sharky” Wirth went down, but his teammates were able to use a rock and a Respawn Beacon for cover and pull off the revive, allowing him to stay in the game. In-game leader Rhys “Zer0” Perry utilized his Valkyrie ultimate to shield his teammates while also dealing damage to LG from below, providing Reignite just enough room to survive.

The APAC squad launched a Gibraltar assault, which was then followed up by them pushing the teams beneath them. OpTic fought against them, allowing Reignite a tiny bit more breathing room. The APAC team used this opportunity to become the first third-party in North America, first eliminating LG and then OpTic to win the Split 2 playoffs title.

Reignite will win the ALGS Split 2 playoffs trophy, $250,000 in prize money, and 50 playoff points toward qualifications for this year’s ALGS Champions.
