EA’s New PC App Rolling Out to Replace Origin Soon, macOS Users Still Need to Stay on Origin for Now
EA said on Thursday that its new PC application, aimed to replace its Origin platform, has now become available for download. According to EA’s blog post, this new app is intended to provide a “faster, more reliable, and more streamlined gaming experience,” with features like as automated game downloads and background patches.
Players who are currently utilizing Origin will be invited to move over “soon.” “By the time you receive your invite, all your games and content, including games previously installed, will be ready and waiting for you on the EA app,” according to EA. Saves as well as your friend list will also be transferred. If you don’t want to wait, you may download the app from EA’s website right now.
The app has been in the works for quite some time, with EA originally announcing that it will be swapping Origin with this newer version a little more than two years ago. EA has gradually distanced itself from the Origin brand, such as when it renamed its EA Access as well as Origin Access services as EA Play.
Origin isn’t completely gone, however, because macOS users will still need to utilize the Origin program to play their games. There is no set schedule for when or if that will change, but “as things evolve,” EA adds in a related blog post, “we’ll have more information to share in the coming months,”
