Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen advanced to the Speed Chess Championship final after defeating Nihal Sarin & Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, respectively. Magnus Carlsen, the 5-time world champion, faced Hikaru Nakamura, the four-time SCC (Speed Chess champion) now five-time, in the 2022 SCC Championship Match today.

The final of the Speed Chess Championship was played today, December 18, between Hikaru Nakamura and Magnus Carlsen, with Nakamura winning by a narrow margin of 14.5:13.5. Three different time controls were used in the bullet games. Nakamura’s supremacy was shown in the 5+1 games with the lead of +4 right points right at start.

This championship’s format included 90 minutes of 5+1 games, 60 minutes of 3+1 games, and 30 minutes of 1+1 games. The ten 5+1 games resulted in a 6.5:2.5 score in favor of the Hikaru Nakamura; ten more games were played in the 3+1 segment, which ended in a 4:6, resulting in 10.5:8.5 before the 1+1 bullet games started.
