GTA 6 hack: UK police arrest a 17-year-old teen suspected of being involved in a Rockstar security breach
A 17-year-old has now been arrested in relation with the Uber as well as Rockstar Games hacks, one of which resulted in this weekend’s huge Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks. An unidentified hacker published over 90 videos of the game’s early development last weekend, resulting in the first-ever clips of Grand Theft Auto 6. Reports differed on what the hacker gained, with some claiming to have obtained the source codes for both the Grand Theft Auto 5 and Grand Theft Auto 6.
On the evening of Thursday 22 September 2022, the City of London Police arrested a 17-year-old in Oxfordshire on suspicion of hacking, as part of an investigation supported by the @NCA_UK’s National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU).

Aside from the fact that Grand Theft Auto 6 footage scattered like wildfire on the Internet, the matter swiftly grew complicated. One person was scammed out of $100,000 by someone claiming to be the hacker while seeking to buy GTA 5 source code, and others took to social media impersonating to be the individual behind the cyberattacks to demand ransom. A day later, Rockstar Games responded, expressing disappointment at the leak but maintaining that it will not influence the development for Grand Theft Auto 6.
When official statements are released, the GTA 6 hacker may go unnamed due to their minor status. Regardless, a hack and disclosure of this magnitude will very probably lead to severe legal penalties. What those ramifications will be is still to be known, but the FBI’s statement later today should provide more details on the incident and potential charges.
Bloomberg reported in March that a person suspected of being behind several of the group’s big attacks was a then-16-year-old whose home authorities raided near Oxford, England, in the county of Oxfordshire.
“We believe that this attacker (or attackers) are affiliated with a hacking group called Lapsus$, which has been increasingly active over the last year or so.” Uber stated on its blog following the breach. In forum posts, the GTA 6 leaker claimed to be the same person who is responsible for the Uber attack.
