Asus reveals the world’s first 500Hz Nvidia G-Sync gaming display

At Computex 2022, Nvidia and Asus will be introducing the world’s first 500Hz G-Sync display named “ROG Swift”. While we saw a prototype 500Hz gaming monitor earlier this year, Asus is promising a shipping 24-inch 500Hz TN panel designed for 1080p esports games. The new ROG Swift 500Hz ASUS monitor has not yet been announced.

Nvidia and Asus announced a new 500Hz gaming monitor today, just over two years after they collaborated to release 360Hz esports displays at CES 2020. Gamers on PC have traditionally purchased 144Hz displays, while even 240Hz panels are still uncommon. So 500 Hz may seem excessive, but Nvidia assures that it will make a difference for competitive gamers seeking the best of the best.

Nvidia has posted a video on YouTube to back up its claim. The Phantom VEO 640S motion camera was used to illustrate the point. This camera possesses 72GB of RAM, allowing it to capture Valorant gameplay at up to 1000fps. Nvidia claims that because this new 500Hz monitor provides smoother animations and reduced ghosting, target tracking will be easier. Reduced latency is essential with any high refresh rate display; Nvidia claims you’ll be able to see players emerging from cover sooner than those who use a 240Hz or 144Hz monitor.

Naturally, to power a 500Hz monitor, you’ll need a high-end gaming PC and GPU. Nvidia is expected to release its next-generation RTX 4090 graphics card this summer, which would be an excellent match for a 500Hz panel. Asus’ ROG Swift 500Hz display is 1080p, implying that games such as CS:GO, Valorant, and Overwatch should be able to achieve the frame rates necessary to make good use of a 500Hz screen with a high-end GPU.

Nvidia’s Reflex Analyzer and a G-Sync esports mode with an adjustable vibrance option that “allows more light to travel through the LCD crystals” are also included. This display also employs a new esports TN (E-TN) technology, which Asus claims offers “60 percent faster response times than standard TN panels.”

If the idea of 500Hz still seems excessive, Nvidia introduced new G-Sync displays earlier this year that allow you to choose between 1440p and 1080p settings. The 27-inch esports displays have up to 360Hz refresh rates, as well as a unique 25-inch 1080p mode.
