Wild Hunt is a popular third-person RPG that dominated the previous generation of gaming. CD Projekt RED has been planning an Xbox Series X|S and PS5 update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for some time, but another delay means gamers will have to wait a little longer. CDPR has stated that a development reorganization implies that the planned upgrade is now postponed indefinitely beyond the previously announced Q2 2022 release window.

“Based on recommendations from persons in charge of development, the Company has decided to have its in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” CD Projekt said. “The Company is currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus has to postpone the game’s release, previously scheduled for Q2 2022.”

Saber Interactive, a seasoned support studio that aids development across a range of studios, especially as part of the Embracer Group, has aided progress on a current-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. On Wednesday, CD Projekt revealed that its in-house development team is finishing the project, indicating that Saber Interactive is no longer involved. A cause for this architectural shift was not given.

Saber Interactive has several teams in various countries, including ones that have been affected by or are involved in the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. 4A Games, located in Kyiv, Ukraine, and responsible for games like Metro Exodus, is a well-known firm that supports a lot of studios and game projects. It’s unclear whether the horrible conflict in Ukraine had anything to do with it; however, CD Projekt is among numerous gaming companies that have responded to the crisis in Ukraine.

Wild Hunt’s next-gen upgrade is expected to be similar in scale to Cyberpunk 2077’s on Xbox X, which was released earlier this year. Information regarding the current-generation upgrade has been delayed out of 2021 previously, and this latest delay does not include an updated release date. CD Projekt RED previously stated that they would provide additional details “very soon.”

When the patch drops, it will be applied to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox X, Xbox S, and PS5 with enhanced visuals and performance. Meanwhile, The Witcher 3 is still one of the finest Xbox games out there even without planned enhancements, and it’s currently on sale.
