Rockstar remove offensive “transphobic” content from Next-Gen GTA

A Rockstar representative has said that the firm is removing content that is offensive to transphobic people in Grand Theft Auto Online and the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto 5

The new “Grand Theft Auto 5” is technically improved, adding better visuals and smoother loading times. Although the price difference between platforms upset fans, Rockstar took the chance to fix prior blunders and remove some controversial content from the game.

"GTA 5" and "GTA Online" remove content that is offensive to transphobic people.

Last month, after the game’s next wave of updates, was released, Rockstar appeared to have disabled trans caricatures or “drag queens” from generating around Cockatoos, as Kirsty Cloud put it on Twitter.

“The models still exist in Director Mode, but their conversation alternatives have been removed (presumably implying protagonist dialogue lines to these NPCs on hormone usage and so on are no longer available),” says Kirsty Cloud, an admin for GTANet.

A similar controversy also surrounded an image of a piece of art in the game’s arcade. One of the Captain Spacetoy figurines that was once hanging on the wall depicted a person in a pink outfit labeled as “Interstellar Transgender” with an “interchangeable genitalia” function. In later versions of the game, this depiction was removed and banned.

After the game’s release in 2013, some users claimed that it contained “toxic elements” that were “repulsive and harmful.” Out Making Games, a UK-based advocacy group for LGBTQ+ people working in the games industry, recently wrote an open letter to Rockstar Games asking them to remove transphobic parts from their GTA games. The letter went on to request that Rockstar Games not endorse violence against transgender and gender-diverse individuals “to avoid contributing to this problem.” It added, “Given the cultural impact GTA 5 has all around the world, Rockstar has a social responsibility to your players (many of whom may be LGBTQ+), as well as your employees and society.
