The Game Pass service from Microsoft is well worth the money. Many people may be hesitant about paying a monthly fee for access to their video game collection, but subscribers get unlimited access to an incredible range of games, ranging from indie darlings to triple-A blockbusters, for a surprisingly affordable monthly price.

The service added numerous beloved games like Skyrim and Fallout 3 after Microsoft acquired Bethesda early last year. And with Microsoft’s recent announcement that it’ll acquire Activision Blizzard, Game Pass’ reputation as the greatest deal in video games is potentially poised to grow even more.

The service’s current library, however, already includes a substantial, vivid collection of indie and major game titles from throughout the industry. More games are added to Game Pass on launch day than ever before, and the majority of them are also available for Windows PC via PC Game Pass, which is included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Grounded

Obsidian Entertainment is back with a distinct approach to the survival genre. In a perplexing Honey-I-Shrunk-the-Kids sort of situation, players take on the role of youngsters who have become tiny in volume. These kids, currently no larger than an ant, must figure out what happened to them and survive the hazardous surroundings of a typical backyard. Among Us is the indie hidden-role game. Placing itself on the Game Pass roster was simply an added step.

The idea is simple: several players find themselves aboard a spaceship (or remote research facility) with various responsibilities, ranging from cleaning out dirty vents to destroying asteroids threatening the ship. The catch? One (or more) of your crewmates is an imposter who comes aboard with the aim of murdering you and everyone else. The game concludes in one of three ways: the crewmates complete all assignments, the murderer is identified and expelled, or the imposters succeed in wiping out the crew. It’s best played with coworkers and friends because there’s nothing more amusing than figuring someone’s tells out and desperately attempting to figure out if they were on the other end of the room when a body is discovered.

Hollow Knight

The exploration and genuine sense of discovery in Hollow Knight are easily some of the best in the business. It’s a great illustration of how to make a Metroidvania nowadays. Hollow Knight never sacrifices its mystery or world-building for padded side missions or game-breaking enhancements.

It’s a gloomy, magical, and deceptively hard game right through to the end. It certainly takes elements from the Dark Souls series, so be on your guard when venturing into new areas and prepare to learn every boss’ routine carefully.

Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls has long been associated with the idea of open-world RPGs, and Skyrim is the title to prove it. All jokes aside, Alduin’s quest for the Dragonborn leads to one spectacular spectacle after another and is surpassed by few other RPGs in terms of sheer number of chapters.

Skyrim is a stunningly beautiful territory, and the quantity of “optional” content is almost endless. 12 Minutes

Twelve Minutes is an escape room-style mystery game in which players find themselves trapped in a 12-minute time loop that ends in tragedy. Though there isn’t much action in Visage, the excellent claustrophobic tension more than compensates for it.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

The game is nothing short of incredible. It’s an experience like no other, as it succeeds in capturing the difficulty of living with mental illness while also telling an emotional story. Senua is a Viking warrior looking to set her partner’s spirit at rest by traveling to Helheim. Her journey is difficult, as the voices she hears in her own head plague her (and you) with uncertainty and bits of advice. Every step taken by Senua is haunted by scary hallucinations. While Hellblade’s journey may be difficult and leave you doubting if the whole adventure is worth it, it ultimately leads to one of the most satisfying endings in gaming history. That battle against your own demons is worthy of respect and appreciation, as demonstrated by Hellblade.

A Plague Tale: Innocence

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a fantasy-based alternate history narrative set in the 14th century following two noble siblings who have been forced from their home by the English. The game’s plot follows two protagonists who, while seeking a cure for the Black Death, are intertwined in a larger-than-life scheme to find one. Despite the game’s great overall plot, it is mostly concerned with the characters’ connections and their struggle for survival. Fans of triple-A blockbusters will feel right at home playing through Plague Tale’s stealth-action gameplay. The story naturally progresses, thanks to its organic development, effective gameplay mechanics, and fascinating player abilities that are acquired throughout the game.

Hitman Trilogy

The Hitman series is the pinnacle of professionally combined badassery and hilariousness. Agent 47’s three main titles are included with The Hitman Trilogy, which gives hours of entertainment as players figure out how to kill their targets in a variety of ways.
