Activision has confirmed that a new Call of Duty series will release in 2023

Activision Blizzard revealed plans for “the most robust Call of Duty live operations to date, the next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series, and even more engaging free-to-play experiences across all platforms.” in its Q3 2022 earnings report. On November 7, CharlieINTEL revealed that Activision’s financial report guaranteed a new, full-priced Call of Duty release in 2023.

Activision Blizzard’s phrasing was addressed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who stated that the Activision Blizzard’s “full premium release” is “a continuation of Modern Warfare II. It’s called a full premium release because they’re probably going to market and sell it as a $70 game with new single- and multiplayer content. But it’s more MWII”.

Treyarch is working on the next Call of Duty game. After the Black Ops Cold War release in 2020, the development team has not released a game. According to Schreier, Sledgehammer will release a paid, premium expansion for Modern Warfare 2 in 2023, with a large amount of content.

According to Bloomberg, Activision Blizzard planned to postpone the 2023 release due to the bad reception of 2021’s Call of Duty: Vanguard, which failed to fulfill the company’s expectations.

Activision Blizzard seemed to counter the report; however, it did not explicitly acknowledge the possibility of a 2023 game. Activision spokesperson Neil Wood said in a statement in February, “We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences for this year, next year and beyond. Reports of anything otherwise are incorrect. We look forward to sharing more details when the time is right.”
